Notice Overview
Viking Range, LLC has issued this safety check notice regarding the gas valve assembly on select Viking gas range models. A manufacturing tolerance issue in a batch of gas valve components may allow a small volume of gas to pass through even when the burner control knob is in the OFF position, creating a potential gas accumulation and ignition hazard.
Affected Viking Gas Range Models
This safety check applies to Viking Professional 7 Series and Viking 5 Series freestanding and rangetop gas ranges with the following model prefixes manufactured between March 2020 and September 2023:
- VGR7486 series (all suffix variants)
- VGR5486 series (all suffix variants)
- VGR5366 series (all suffix variants)
- VGRT5366 series (rangetop, all suffix variants)
- VGRT7486 series (rangetop, all suffix variants)
Locate the model label behind the storage drawer or on the inside frame of the kick panel to verify your model and production date.
Risk Level
Urgency: CRITICAL. Gas accumulation in an enclosed kitchen presents a serious explosion and asphyxiation risk. If you detect a gas odor, evacuate immediately and call your gas utility provider before contacting a technician.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Faint sulfur or rotten-egg odor near the range when all burners are off
- Clicking igniter sound when no burner knob is engaged
- Pilot light or burner that re-ignites shortly after being turned off
- Higher-than-normal gas bills without a change in cooking habits
Recommended Actions
- If you smell gas at any time: do not operate any electrical switches, open windows immediately, evacuate all occupants, and call your gas utility’s emergency line from outside the building.
- Once safe, shut off the gas supply valve behind or beneath the range.
- Schedule an inspection with a certified Viking service technician as soon as possible. Technicians will test valve seat integrity and replace any non-conforming valve assemblies at no charge under this safety notice.
- Do not use the range until it has been inspected and cleared by an authorized technician.
- Install a natural gas or propane detector in your kitchen as an additional precaution.
Viking will cover parts and labor for gas valve replacement on all confirmed affected units within the production window. Contact Viking Appliance Customer Support at 1-888-VIKING-1 to schedule service or verify coverage.
