Recall Summary
Viking has identified a potential electrical hazard in the ice maker water inlet valve on select undercounter and freestanding ice machines. The valve solenoid wiring connector may overheat under certain conditions, potentially causing the connector housing to melt or, in rare cases, ignite. The issue is related to a specific batch of connectors supplied by a third-party vendor.
Affected Models
- Viking Professional Undercounter Ice Machine: VUIM015, VUIM024
- Viking Freestanding Ice Machine: VFIM015
- Production dates: June 2021 through March 2023
- Serial numbers: Located on the rating plate inside the unit door
Risk Level: HIGH
An overheating electrical connector presents a fire risk. The ice machine is often installed in enclosed cabinetry where a fire could spread rapidly. Units should be inspected promptly even if no symptoms have been observed.
Recommended Action
- Verify your model and serial number against the affected range
- If affected, unplug the ice machine and turn off the water supply until inspection is completed
- Contact Viking authorized service for a free connector replacement — the repair takes approximately 30 minutes
- Do not continue to operate an affected unit
Signs of a Problem
If you notice a burning smell near the ice machine, discoloration or melting on the rear panel area, or the circuit breaker trips when the ice machine fills with water, unplug the unit immediately and contact service.
