Viking Outdoor Grill Propane Regulator Recall — Select LP Gas Models

Recall Summary

Viking has identified a potential issue with the propane gas regulator supplied with select outdoor grill models. The regulator diaphragm material may degrade when exposed to prolonged UV radiation and temperature cycling (common in outdoor installations). A degraded diaphragm can allow gas to pass at unregulated pressure, resulting in dangerously high flame or, in rare cases, a flame flashback into the manifold.

Affected Models

  • Viking Professional Outdoor Grill: VGBQ53624BSS, VGBQ54124BSS
  • Viking Professional Outdoor Grill Cart: VGBQ53024BSS
  • Production dates: January 2020 through December 2022
  • Applies only to LP (propane) gas models, not natural gas

Risk Level: HIGH

An unregulated propane gas supply can produce flames significantly larger than expected, creating burn and fire risk. Flame flashback into the manifold is a serious hazard that can damage the grill and injure the operator. All affected regulators should be replaced before the grill is used again.

Recommended Action

  1. Check your grill model number on the rating plate
  2. If affected, do not use the grill until the regulator has been replaced
  3. Contact Viking authorized service or your dealer for a free replacement regulator
  4. The replacement is a simple swap that can be performed by the owner or a technician

How to Identify a Degraded Regulator

Inspect the regulator body (the disc-shaped device between the propane tank and the grill hose). Signs of degradation include: visible cracking or chalking of the plastic housing, a yellow or discolored diaphragm visible through the vent holes, or flames that are notably taller than normal on the lowest setting.
