Notice Overview
Viking Range, LLC is issuing this notice regarding excessive compressor vibration on select Viking wine cellar and wine column models. The rubber compressor mounting isolators used in a specific production batch may harden and lose elasticity prematurely, allowing compressor vibration to transfer directly to the unit chassis and wine racks. Sustained vibration is detrimental to wine quality — disturbing sediment, disrupting aging, and potentially causing bottle-to-bottle contact that can result in breakage. Additionally, increased vibration levels are an early indicator of compressor bearing wear that, left unaddressed, typically leads to full compressor failure.
Affected Viking Wine Cellar Models
This notice applies to Viking Professional Series and Viking 5 Series undercounter and full-height wine cellars with the following model prefixes manufactured between January 2019 and March 2023:
- VWCR5241 series (Professional, all suffix variants)
- VWCR5301 series (Professional, all suffix variants)
- VWCR3241 series (5 Series, all suffix variants)
- VWC030 series (undercounter, all suffix variants)
- VWC052 series (undercounter, all suffix variants)
Risk Level
Urgency: MODERATE. While not an immediate safety emergency, ignoring this notice risks permanent wine quality degradation, bottle breakage, and costly compressor replacement if the condition is allowed to progress.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Noticeable vibration felt on the exterior panels or door handle during compressor operation
- Unusual rattling or humming sounds louder than typical background compressor noise
- Wine bottles vibrating or clicking against each other in the racks
- Increased sediment disturbance in bottles observed over successive inspections
- Temperature fluctuations of more than 2°F from the set point without changes in ambient room temperature
Recommended Actions
- Place your hand flat on the side panel while the compressor is running to assess vibration level. Mild vibration is normal; any vibration strong enough to visibly move bottles is not.
- Ensure the unit is level — an unlevel installation amplifies vibration. Use a spirit level and adjust the leveling feet as needed.
- Verify that the unit is not in direct contact with adjacent cabinetry, which can amplify transmitted vibration.
- Schedule a service appointment with a certified Viking technician, who can inspect and replace the compressor mounting isolators. This repair significantly reduces vibration and can extend compressor life by several years.
- If vibration is severe, consider temporarily relocating high-value bottles to a secondary storage location until the repair is completed.
Compressor mounting isolator kits for affected models are available through Viking-authorized parts dealers. Contact Viking Appliance Customer Support at 1-888-VIKING-1 or visit vikingrange.com for dealer and service technician referrals in your area.
