Viking Induction Cooktop Glass Surface Safety Notice

Notice Overview

Viking Range, LLC has issued this notice regarding the ceramic glass cooking surface on select Viking induction cooktop models. Under thermal cycling stress — particularly from repeated high-temperature cooking followed by rapid surface cooling — the tempered glass surface may develop micro-fractures that propagate over time, increasing the risk of surface breakage during use.

Affected Viking Induction Cooktop Models

This notice applies to Viking 5 Series and Viking 3 Series induction cooktops with the following model prefixes manufactured between August 2018 and December 2022:

  • VCIN5364 series (all suffix variants)
  • VCIN5304 series (all suffix variants)
  • VCIN3364 series (all suffix variants)
  • VCIN3304 series (all suffix variants)

The model and serial number label is located on the underside of the cooktop frame or on the inner edge of the cooktop cutout opening.

Risk Level

Urgency: MODERATE-HIGH. A fractured cooktop surface poses a laceration hazard and may expose live electrical components beneath the glass. Do not use a cooktop with visible surface cracks.

Symptoms to Watch For

  • Hairline cracks, spider-web patterns, or chips in the glass surface
  • Audible cracking sounds during or after a cooking cycle
  • Unusual display errors or zone-detection failures on previously functioning burner zones
  • Surface discoloration around burner zones beyond normal cooking residue

Recommended Actions

  1. Visually inspect the entire glass surface under good lighting, checking all burner zones and edges for cracks or chips.
  2. If any surface damage is found, stop using the cooktop immediately and turn off power at the circuit breaker.
  3. Avoid placing cold items (such as wet cookware or frozen foods) directly on a hot surface — allow the cooktop to cool naturally after use.
  4. Contact a certified Viking service technician to assess whether the glass requires replacement. Viking is offering a discounted glass panel replacement program for units within the affected production window.
  5. In the interim, do not attempt to seal or tape over cracks — this does not restore structural integrity and may create additional hazards.
