Viking Built-In Refrigerator and Freezer Column Refrigerant Line Recall

Recall Summary

Viking has identified a potential issue with the refrigerant line routing in select built-in refrigerator and freezer column units. During manufacturing, the copper refrigerant tube may have been positioned too close to the compressor vibration mount, causing the tube to wear through over a period of 2-4 years due to vibration contact. This results in a slow refrigerant leak that gradually reduces cooling performance.

Affected Models

  • Viking Professional Built-In Refrigerator Column: VCRB5363SS, VCRB5303SS
  • Viking Professional Built-In Freezer Column: VCFB5363SS, VCFB5303SS
  • Production dates: September 2020 through August 2022
  • Serial numbers: Located on the interior wall of the unit near the top

Risk Level: MODERATE

This is not an immediate safety hazard but will result in progressive cooling loss. The refrigerant (R600a on some models) is flammable in concentrated amounts, though the quantity in a household unit is small. The primary risk is food spoilage from gradual temperature rise.

Recommended Action

  1. Check your model and serial number
  2. If affected, contact Viking authorized service for a free inspection
  3. The technician will inspect the refrigerant line routing and add a protective sleeve if the tube is at risk
  4. If a leak has already developed, the line will be repaired and the system recharged at no cost

Symptoms of a Developing Leak

Watch for: gradually rising temperatures over weeks despite normal settings, the compressor running for longer periods than usual, or an oily residue near the compressor area at the bottom rear of the unit. These signs suggest a slow refrigerant leak may have already started.
