Viking Outdoor Grill Propane Line Inspection Notice

Notice Overview

Viking Range, LLC strongly recommends that all owners of Viking outdoor grill models connected to propane fuel sources perform a thorough annual inspection of the propane supply hose, regulator assembly, and all connection points. Extended outdoor exposure to UV light, temperature extremes, and environmental moisture causes rubber and composite hose materials to degrade over time, increasing the risk of gas leaks that can lead to fire or explosion.

Affected Viking Outdoor Grill Models

This notice applies to all Viking Outdoor Series propane-connected grills, including:

  • VGBQ53624 series (Professional Outdoor, all suffix variants)
  • VGBQ41624 series (all suffix variants)
  • VGIQ53624 series (built-in outdoor, all suffix variants)
  • VGIQ41624 series (all suffix variants)
  • All Viking Outdoor Series carts and built-in grill heads manufactured prior to 2021 are especially urged to inspect, as hose assemblies on older units are more susceptible to UV degradation.

Risk Level

Urgency: HIGH (annual maintenance required). Gas leaks near an ignition source can cause rapid flash fires. This inspection should be treated as essential seasonal maintenance, not an optional check.

Inspection Checklist

  • Visually inspect the entire length of the propane hose for cracks, abrasions, kinking, or brittleness
  • Check all threaded connection points for corrosion or cross-threading
  • Apply a soapy water solution to all connections with the gas valve open — bubbling indicates a leak
  • Test regulator function: pressure should stabilize within 5 seconds of opening the tank valve
  • Confirm the regulator excess-flow valve resets properly after the tank valve is closed and reopened
  • Inspect burner venturi tubes for spider or insect nests that can cause flashback

Recommended Actions

  1. Perform this inspection at the start of each grilling season and after any period of extended storage.
  2. Replace the propane hose and regulator assembly if any cracks, leaks, or regulator malfunction are found. Do not attempt to patch a damaged hose.
  3. Replace hose assemblies every 5 years regardless of visible condition as a precautionary measure.
  4. If a leak is detected during the soapy water test, immediately close the tank valve, move away from the grill, and contact a certified Viking outdoor appliance technician before resuming use.
  5. Store propane tanks upright in a well-ventilated outdoor location; never store inside a garage or enclosed space.

Replacement hose and regulator assemblies are available directly through Viking-authorized dealers. For assistance identifying the correct part number for your model, contact Viking Appliance Customer Support at 1-888-VIKING-1.
