Notice Overview
Viking Range, LLC has identified a latch mechanism concern on select Viking built-in dishwasher models. Over time, normal wear or minor misalignment of the door strike plate can prevent the latch from fully engaging the lock position. An incompletely latched door may release during the wash or rinse cycle, causing hot water and detergent to discharge onto the kitchen floor and adjacent cabinetry, creating slip hazards and potential water damage.
Affected Viking Dishwasher Models
This notice applies to Viking Professional 5 Series and Viking 3 Series dishwashers with the following model prefixes manufactured between February 2017 and November 2022:
- VDWU524 series (all suffix variants)
- VDWU324 series (all suffix variants)
- DFUD042 series (all suffix variants)
- FDW302 series (all suffix variants)
Risk Level
Urgency: MODERATE. While not immediately life-threatening, an uncontrolled water release during a heated cycle can cause scalding, significant flooring damage, and subfloor deterioration if not addressed promptly.
Symptoms to Watch For
- Door requires extra force to fully close and latch
- Dishwasher starts a cycle but pauses or displays a door-open error shortly after beginning
- Audible water dripping or pooling near the base of the dishwasher door during or after a cycle
- Latch handle feels loose or has increased play compared to when the unit was new
Recommended Actions
- Test the door latch by firmly closing the door and attempting to pull it open without pressing the release. The door should hold firmly with no movement.
- Inspect the door strike plate (located on the tub frame) for visible misalignment, corrosion, or damage. The latch bolt should engage the strike plate fully and symmetrically.
- If the door does not hold securely, do not run a wash cycle until the latch is repaired.
- Contact a certified Viking service technician to adjust or replace the door latch assembly and strike plate. This is a straightforward repair typically completed in under 45 minutes.
- As a temporary measure, do not leave the area while the dishwasher is running if you have noticed any latch hesitation.
Latch assemblies and strike plates for affected models are in stock at Viking-authorized parts distributors. Contact Viking Appliance Customer Support at 1-888-VIKING-1 to arrange service or confirm part availability for your model.
